Halfway House

How much is that doggy in the window?

One of the messages on the Halfway House's noticeboard this week reads "good home for greyhound wanted".

The animal - known as 'Bert' - was bought jointly by a group of staff and drinkers a few years ago in the hope of making them some money at the races. But according to our sources "it hasn't been performing".

"I've seen Nick Wheller run up Windmill Lane quicker" said one of the dog's 12 owners.

"Our Basset Hound is faster" said the landlady.

"The bloody thing's scared of rabbits" said the pub's cook, as she wrote "it's not as good as it used to be" in the icing on a customer's birthday cake.

It's not known if the Greyhound - pictured above 'exhausted' after running around his owner's living room last night - will be given away or sold.

Anyone interested should contact Andy behind the bar.
