LANGPORT CHRISTMAS LIGHTS

Didn't they do well!

Long strings of bright white twinkling Christmas lights were put up and switched on along parts of Bow Street, Cheapside and North Street on Sunday thanks to the hard work of Langport town councillors, council staff and other volunteers...and didn't they do well! It's looking great.

Several shop fronts and properties involved now have their own exterior wall connections fitted.

"It's marvellous" said one woman who lives opposite The Angel, "it's the first time me and Nigel have been able to plug the electric blanket in for years"

The Town Council has also been taking full advantage of the new wiring.

Leader Janet Seaton (pictured) says it means it'll be far easier to turn on the Town Clerk every morning when she gets in.

- and both Ryanair and Easyjet have told Carry On Langport they're "delighted" that this year's extended lighting down both sides of Bow Street will make it easier for them to get Langport shoppers home from Thursday night Christmas shopping in Taunton.

"We're still not sure how they're going to get round Post Office corner once they've touched down though" said Dave Linney, at Pitney Air Traffic Control.

Don't worry about that Dave, if 15 tonne HGVs can get round it we're sure the odd 747 can.

"Don't worry about getting me a window seat" she said, "I'll sit on the thrusters"

Tomorrow on Carry On Langport: BY ELECTION. Villages in the Turn Hill ward have to choose their South Somerset District Councillor on Thursday. The single result - just that one seat - could completely change control of the Yeovil-based authority.
