What election?

Get your voting cards out - it's tomorrow (Thurs)

Forget Brexit and Trump...a tiny apparently insignificant part of South Somerset goes to the polls tomorrow to elect a new district councillor.

The by election follows the resignation of the current Conservative holder of the seat known as 'The Turn Hill Ward'. Sounds like a geriatric unit but it is, in fact, a large area which straddles the countryside from Aller to Long Sutton...taking in several addresses on the way.

Not asleep yet? I'll keep going...South Somerset District Council is currently 'hung'...no no no...not lynched. I mean 'hung' which - for the under 30s who think politics is a rash - means no party has overall control.

But...if the Lib-Dem candidate wins the seat tomorrow, her party will take over political control of the district. However, if her Tory or Labour opponents for the seat win, the entire district council will remain hung.

Polling stations are in Aller and Long Sutton.

So get thinking and do some googling around and see who you want to vote for

The Candidates

Hoping to keep hold of the seat for the Conservatives is Aller man Gerrard Tucker.

Challenging Tory control of the ward are Sean Dromgoole at Coombe for Labour and Langport woman Julia Gadd for the Lib-Dems.

At this point there don't appear to be any puns or jokes to make this story a 'lighter read' and it would be unfair to try to influence voters.

So there you have it...we don't often do local politics on the blog and that report has just lost me about 2000 readers. Cheers.
