Town Council pulls finger out and sorts out clock

Cars swerved, HGVs mounted the pavement and peope got stuck in the One Stop's sliding doors yesterday - just another afternoon in Langport. Then the real shock took place: the town council unveiled the newly-restored clock (pictured).

The Victorian time piece has been unreadable for several years. Fake news in the American Press even suggested it had been bought second hand from Hiroshima city hall.

But now, Langporters and visitors can tell the time again without having to run down Whatley and use the library's clock.

"We had to tie up the Town Clerk in a barn in Wick before we could give the paint job the go ahead" said one delighted councillor.

" - and we thought it was high time we stopped spending thousands of pounds on railway station feasibility studies and free electric car charging" said another.

"My God! How did we miss that story?!" said a Western Gazette reporter, still busy trying to reunite a horse with the man who rescued it.

Celebrations are expected to continue until about midday today (Sat).
