Memory Lane....

...not that many of us can remember this lot!

It's always good to share old pictures and show the under 30s that life was 'alright' 'round here before Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and direct bus routes to Somerton.

These have landed on Carry On Langport's news desk in recent days. Hopefully you'll be able to click on them to get a larger view.

The one at the top of this post is believed to have been taken in 1941. It's the year Huish Episcopi Comprehensive opened and took its first batch of pupils (pictured) from Langport Council School - that's the primary school we still have today opposite Tesco.

If you look closely through the window at the back on the left...you can just see Mr Gray chasing Mr Sammons down the maths corridor.

This one is currently being used as the cover photo on Carry On Langport's Facebook page. It's the primary school's first eleven football team in 1933.

Surnames of the boys pictured include Castle, Shelston, Hall, Lock, Shire, Male, Clark & Morris. There's no record as to whether they had a good fight up the club after this game.

- jumping forward almost 20 years we've got this one:

It's the 25th anniversary dinner of the Langport branch of the Womens' Institute in December 1951 at All Saints Hall on North Street.

- and finally this very early one of part of the old forecourt at Shires Garage...

...believed to have been taken on a busy weekday back in February 1948.

Many thanks to our contributors.
