State of emergency declared in Huish Episcopi
It's that time of year again folks - when the annual cavalcade of decades-old steam engines makes its way from Low Ham down to the Rose and Crown in Huish Episcopi...taking out several local properties on the way.
"We're expecting some of the tight corners at Kelways roundabout to take a beating" said a spokesman at the Highways Agency.
"What, more than every other day of the year?" said a Wearne woman.
There are unconfirmed reports Langport Town Trust has paid one of the drivers to plough his 8-ton steam engine into the Hanging Chapel, "it would certainly save us a lot of trouble" said town council leader Janet Seaton.
Several properties have stuck crash mats on their corners already today and marshall law's been imposed at Courtfield....no change there then.
The steam engines, tanks, vintage HGVs and other vehicles are all expected to join the crowds at Eli's at some time towards half past 5, six o'clock.
Management at the Inn say they're "geared up" for one of the busiest days of the year, "we've brought in an extra 5 pint glasses" said Landlord Steve Pittard.
There are no further details.
