Your town needs you
Friends of the Hanging Chapel, formed this summer to prevent the medieval gateway being sold off and to secure its future, say they need as many Langport-registered voters at Great Bow Wharf tomorrow evening (Tues) as they can get.
There's a Parish Meeting. It's been called by local electors not the town council and is in the Stuckey Room.
The friends say everyone's welcome to come and listen and have a say but if any vote takes place - only Langport residents can take part - so get down there and make up the numbers.
The council's notice reads "...AGENDA - The future of the hanging chapel..." but many people will no doubt want an explanation of why this is suddenly an issue.
Good luck with that...it could be 'confidential'.
At this point it seems, then, appropriate to remind Carry On Langport readers of some words from town council leader Janet Seaton which are on her profile on the community website Langport.life
Click on the link above to take a look...we have also copied and pasted what she wrote here, below, for your convenience.
As seen on Langport.life:
"As Chairman, I also want to do things a bit differently. I want to help make the Council
- more open – better at explaining what we’re doing and why we’re doing it
- more transparent – giving everyone clearer information about the way we work
- more accessible – ready and willing to listen to everyone’s concerns and ideas
- more constructive – able to achieve more by consultation and agreement
Most of all, I want it to be a team effort. Only by working together can we contribute most effectively to the community we are here to serve"
Pictured above: a Langport couple reading Mrs Seaton's message last night.
Tomorrow' s meeting kicks off at 7.30pm...you might want to bring a seatbelt.
