Here come the developers...

Ripping out a massive hedgerow near you soon

This advertising tower's appeared on the trial ground opposite the Bartlett's Elm turning in recent weeks - paving the way for around 90 new homes on the land

The site is made of two large fields stretching between the Brooklands/Kelways roundabout and one side of the Garden City estate.

It means it's time to say goodbye to this old friend which divides the land...

The decades-old towering beech hedge straddles the site from the Kelways Inn end down to part of Garden City.

According to one of the planning application documents, developers Persimmon Homes believe ripping it out would actually 'enhance' the new housing.

We can only assume that's code for squeezing more buildings in and making more money by getting rid of it.

There are also concerns over where wild animals living in the hedge will go if it's destroyed.

Pictured above, they were spotted relocating to trees on Cocklemoor last weekend.

The beech hedge opposite the Kelways Inn isn't listed and can't have a tree preservation order placed on it - so unless you chain yourself to it there's not much you can do.

You could always contact the company and ask them to reconsider - here's the link to phone numbers, addresses and e-mails:

While you're at it - ask them who came up with the 'Parrett Gardens' name as well - are they planning to divert the river?

There are no further details.
