Sunday Mutterings...

A few late items of news from around the shire...

Not a lot to report - a few mutterings have come in to Carry On Langport's news room over the weekend but nothing worth writing home about.

As pictured above - the Black Swan nearly has its function room ready - and as you can see...the comedians have already moved in with the board rubber. Good stuff.

One of the Swan's function room's first big gigs is expected to be its Christmas dinner.

"We're all looking forward to seeing the landlord's Yule Log again" said a member of staff at Somerton Post Office.

In other news - the signs have already come down around the old NatWest building in the centre of town. What it'll be next is still being looked into. We understand other UK towns left 'bankless' have, soon after the closure of the last one, had another bank (or building society) move straight back in again.

The Nationwide appears to be a likely candidate.

Clarification

In a recent post we reported that the Persimmon Homes application on the old peony field opposite the Kelways Inn was done and dusted.

But - and thanks to many readers for pointing this out - Persimmon hasn't had its full planning permission yet from South Somerset District Council.

Yet it's had the audacity to stick up its 'New homes coming soon' signs on the corner of the plot.

The application has been amended a few times in recent weeks but Persimmon still intends to rip out the beech hedge which straddles the plot.

- and finally, don't forget this tomorrow (Monday):

That's it for now - more news later in the week.
