According to a study at Huish Academy, sheep can develop the ability to recognise human faces they're familiar with.
Spokesman Paul McSparron says after intense training at the science block, the animals returned to the picture of the person they 'knew' in order to receive a food treat.
But not everyone's impressed by the breakthrough with one Huish Episcopi-based Welshman saying it was an invasion of his privacy.
"I'll never go to Cartgate Roundabout again" he told reporters.
But Huish Academy says the discovery should help local police, at Wincanton, fight crime.
"We're hoping we can get flocks to recognise pikeys, sheep rustlers and arsonists visiting High Ham" said a spokeswoman.
