NASA fools the world...

"It's a roast spud from the Langport Arms carvery" admits space agency

Scientists at NASA have apologised after it emerged yesterday's deep-space image of "the most distant object ever explored" was in fact a potato thrown out of the upstairs window of the Langport Arms in 1976.

The Space Agency thought it had captured long-awaited photographs of an asteroid 4 billion miles away but admitted this morning that its space probe had been pointing the wrong way.

"It appears we photographed something in orbit over south west England instead" said a spokeswoman.

The manager at the Langport Hotel said she was "delighted" by the find and asked NASA if they'd like Black Forest Gateau when they'd finished.

There are no further details.
