Cheerio Stumpy!

You've had your 5 minutes [7 months] of fame...

It's time to say goodbye to old stumpy folks, the town clock's being winched back up this month.

Traffic lights and scaffolding go up sometime next week, then the roof has to be peeled back and the new beam put in.

Then - we think - the clock is put back in place sometime on Friday 12th April.

The problem with the beam has put the cost up by far more than predicted - it now stands at around £22,500. Just under £8,700 of that has been raised by crowdfunding - donors include several members of the public.

Huish Episcopi Parish Council is believed to have donated almost £5000 to the pot.

Not sure where the rest's coming from - still waiting to hear.

Either way - good to see some progress.

There are unconfirmed reports at least 3 sweepstakes have already been set up across Langport and Huish on how many days will pass after its return before something goes wrong and the clock stops.

Give the thing a chance people! 😂

One more thing, could the town council make sure the spotlights on the town hall actually hit the clock's faces this time 'round?

It's been fun seeing them shine up over the town at night trying to spot the Luftwaffe, but maybe it's time to 're-aim' them eh.
