Missing scarecrows: public appeal

"Be gentle with them" say villagers

Residents in Long Load, Kingsbury Episcopi and Muchelney who've had their competition scarecrows taken from outside their homes have put out an appeal to the people who took them.

A number have gone missing in recent nights and then popped up in pictures on social media in compromising positions with a number of Langport men.

Due to a high court injunction, nothing can be published to identify those responsible - we're not even allowed to say that they all drink at the Black Swan.

"Just don't hurt them" said a woman whose scarecrow was taken on Friday night.

Avon and Somerset Police told Carry On Langport that they'd looked at the pictures but that no crime had been committed because the scarecrows taken were all over 18.

There were reports that one of them was dumped on Cocklemoor yesterday but that turned out to be Councillor MacNab asleep on a bench.

- and this one was found under the town hall yesterday.

If you find one of the missing scarecrows, be gentle, and take it home when you've finished with it.

There are no further details.
