VIEWS SO FAR:

Carry On Langport's Archives

Sunday 13 June 2021

Twenty to or twenty past?

Depends on which way you're driving!

Still no word on the fate of Langport Clock which has been stopped now for over a month. The bell's gone quiet too which is odd considering it chimed away for months when the clock was completely missing for its refit a few years ago.

"It's wonderful" said one Cheapside resident, "it's the first time I've been able to sleep with the bedroom window open in summer for years...well not since I used to let the bin man in anyway"

Meanwhile a Somerset newspaper has apologised after incorrectly reporting the clock had been stopped since an explosion during the Battle of Langport.

"What nonsense" said a local historian", "everyone knows the Battle of Langport was 1645 so that would have made it a quarter to five"

In other news...

Congratulations to the Hanging Gallery which has just been nominated in the best Somerset and Dorset gallery category of the Muddy Stiletto Awards which recognize independent businesses.

 WHO'S SHOWING THE FOOTY TODAY?

Local pubs, clubs, hotels etc showing the England Croatia match at 2pm today include The Black Swan, The Langport Arms and the sports club up the rec at Langport, The Old Pound and The Cider Shack [Bere] at Aller, The Wyndham Arms at Kingsbury and the Kings Head at High Ham.

TWO WEEKS TODAY!

MUSIC, CARBOOT, BOAT RIDES & CIRCUS

The event on Cocklemoor at the end of the month is 2 weeks today, Sunday 27th from midday.

An expected government decision not to ease lockdown restrictions on the 21st should not affect the day as outdoor events like carboot sales and funfairs can already take place.

The Duchess of Cocklemoor will also be putting in an appearance, offering boat rides along the river for a small donation towards the passenger ferry's upkeep [we think it's usually a fiver]  👍

Stallholders [there are 19 of you so far if you all turn up] are reminded to have unloaded and got their cars off the grass by 11:30 for a midday start.

If the weather looks like it may ruin the day then the cancellation notice will go out on Carry On Langport and its Facebook page the evening before or, at the latest, early on the morning of the 27th so keep a look out.

[light rain will not trigger a cancellation but wind and rain together may well do]

ENGINEERING WORKS

Finally an important message for Carry On Langport readers who use the blog's e-mail service to receive notifications of updates.

This feature is being terminated at some point in July. This is a blogspot.com decision, not mine.

So if you don't use Facebook for your new post notifications, you will simply have to check the carryonlangport.blogspot.com blog page manually yourself. Out of my control I'm afraid.

That's your lot this Sunday, enjoy the weather and

COME ON ENGLAND!
