Until the 1990s, Walter Bagehot's former mansion at Hurds Hill up in the trees just outside of Langport was often used as a film set where Hammer made many of its horror films.
All based on alleged goings-on at what was also once a care home there, the movies included In Old People's Homes Nobody Can Hear You Scream (1972), Carry On Screaming It's Matron! (1975) and Lock Up Your Grandads! (1978).
For almost ten years now though its been a lavish country home with beautiful views and gardens, a conference and training centre with ample accommodation and a venue where you can hold events and gatherings.
Who'd have thought Langport had its own mini-Downton Abbey right on its doorstep and with Mother's Day coming up, here's your chance to go and take a look:
This feast is more than your usual tea and cakes folks, we've seen it ourselves. You're gonna need a doggy bag. Also a great afternoon out at a fab historic house inside and out, definitely worth a look!
...and don't worry about all the old horror stories, you'll be fine. Just don't look over the fence!
