AT LAST!

Progress on North Street!

After what must be almost 3 decades, an abandoned building in Langport is finally being sorted out.

Bugger. Sorry, wrong picture.

The property was auctioned off earlier this year after its former long-term owner passed away and has had workers inside for some time filling trucks with rubble and debris.

Having been part of Langport life for so many years, there've been calls to have the famous boarding preserved for future generations at the county museum in Somerset.

"Nice idea but we've already decided" said the new owner, "it's being sent to seal up the Downing Street door and windows until the next general election....and anything left over's going to Madame Tussauds to board up Prince Andrew"

In other news.....

SPEED WATCH CAMPAIGNERS CELEBRATE

Local speed watch campaigners have been celebrating this month as it becomes clear another charity shop is moving in to the former Langport Hardware/Boilertec premises on Cheapside.

The Secret World animal charity is this week busy setting up its new shop, next door to the St Margaret's Hospice shop.

"Wonderful news!" said Dandy Nichols, who runs the Langport Speedwatch group, "more vehicles stopping outside, blocking the road, to load and unload furniture and other items....it all contributes to slowing down traffic through the town centre."

"We're hoping the effect of the new shop on bin day combined with deliveries to Boots and St Margaret's will bring the town to a complete standstill at least once a week!" she added.

Langport and District Fly-tipping Association spokesperson Selwyn Froggit was also delighted:

"It'll be marvellous for our members to have an alternative Cheapside address to dump stuff outside at night" he told us, "especially when St Margaret's front door is usually already full by about midnight"

Finally today...

Still no concrete news on what the ground floor of the old Natwest/Stuckey's bank will be turned in to.

Bar? Offices like upstairs? Carry On Langport merchandise shop? Warm Room to get through winter?

Anybody's guess.

That's your midweek bulletin done and dusted folks, thanks for all the contributions!
