One Stop finally 'throws in the towel'
Tesco, the owner of the One Stop convenience store in Langport, has announced it's sold the town's franchise to the VG group.
VG, which didn't put its prices up every 20 minutes, had a store there until the late 1970s.
A number of changes have already been announced.
They'll include providing cardboard boxes again for shoppers to take their groceries home in, a Corona-style bottle recycling system where customers get money back when they bring in their used bottles and in a first for Langport: a doorman who beats the crap out of the little shysters who go in there shoplifting and abusing the staff.
Marvellous!
When asked if the retailer would be keeping its famous sliding doors, spokeswoman Barbara Mills who worked there in the 70s and now owns the VG trademark, says they are in negotiations with the precinct owners.
"Only if Malcolm pays for the WD40" she told us.
VG is expected to open its doors in the autumn.
There are no further details.
