Despite the wonders of the world wide web, it can often be difficult to find local events all written down in one place.
In recent years Carry On Langport has attempted to do so....not always succeeding!
So here we go again. Very sad not to see PitFest in the listings but this is what we've got so far for spring and early summer 2023:
😊
CLASSIC CAR NIGHTS AT ELI'S
These begin again on April 18th from around 5pm and are held on the 3rd Tuesday of each month throughout spring, summer and early autumn on the Rose & Crown's field. When the weather's good, up to 100 vehicles of all shapes and sizes have been known to turn out.
CIDER SATURDAYS AT BURROW HILL
These weekly gatherings kick off again from April 22nd in the farm yard at Temperley's cider at Stembridge and include food and music as well as good cider.
LANGPORT'S SPRING CARBOOT SALE
This will take place on Cocklemoor on Sunday 30th April. It runs from midday til 3pm with an ice cream van and burger and drinks van also there as well as a couple of aisles of stalls. Space is limited [25-30 stalls max] and cars can only drive on site to unload and load. Sellers, e-mail bountybar@hotmail.com to guarantee yourself a space.
KINGSBURY MAY FESTIVAL
It's back! The popular and highly attended event in the village and on the nearby field will be held on Monday 1st May. The organisers say more details will be coming shortly.
CORONATION DAY
Several villages, housing estates, cul-de-sacs and groups of neighbours are thought to be planning events to mark Charlie Boy finally getting his crown on May 6th. One is on Garden City Green just up from Shires Garage which organisers say all are welcome to attend. [As for the glorious prospect of flags and bunting up and down Langport town centre to celebrate, our Town Council did diddly squat for the Queen's jubilee. Don't hold your breath]
LANGPORT CLUB DAY
Club Day is when members of the Langport & District Friendly Society, lead by Kingsbury Town Band, march through Langport and Huish Episcopi . Funds raised on the day and throughout the year go to a handful of local good causes and projects. They've just paid for a flag mast to be fitted on the roof of All Saints Church tower. This year's march is on the morning of Saturday 27th May.
THE GREEN SCYTHE FAIR
This takes place on a large field just to the back of Thorney Lakes caravan park near Muchelney. Following a shambolic over-attended event some years ago, the fair is now online ticket booking only. But the crowd control system works and the 2022 event was hugely enjoyable for all who attended. They don't like cars so if you drive in you may find the gate fees a tad steep. However cyclists, of whom there are hundreds, and walk-ins pay very little for what is a great day out. This year's Green Scythe Fair is on Sunday 11th June.
😊
That's all we've got for the moment, there are of course other things going on, but this is all we've come up with so far.
Spring's just round the corner folks, keep smiling!
