ROADWORKS

With Langport town centre road resurfacing works in full swing, there's already been a handful of complaints.

"They can scrape as many inches of North Street off as they want" said an Eastover woman, "but me and Reg can still smell the chip fat from the Wayside Cafe."

With street closures taking place from 6:30-11:30pm most evenings well in to August, the lack of traffic has been a welcome change for some residents.

But others, who need to be out and about, have been seeking alternatives.

The Langport Underground, often neglected by locals but lapped up by Londoners who've moved in to the area [with room for a pony], says most of its lines are offering discounts for the duration of the resurfacing works.

"Not Town Hall to Huish Academy though" said a spokeswoman, "still closed after a tunnel collapse at Priest Lane"
