80 years ago and in the months leading up to D-Day Langport & Huish Episcopi were heaving with troops and tanks and jeeps etc from the USA, UK and other countries all heading to the south coast for the invasion of Nazi Europe in June 1944.
It affected all of our ancestors' lives and indeed ours to come.
So a big well done and pat on the back to the two Langport businesses who appear to have marked it this week:
....the Brainwave charity [pictured] and St Margaret's Hospice on Cheapside which also had the red, white & blue out.
But that, unless we're wrong, is all we could find.
As for the town council and the £9.99 they could have spent on 10-20 metres of cheap bunting - no no no - we all learnt that lesson some time ago when nothing appeared on our public buildings for the late Queen's diamond jubilee nor the King's coronation.
Remember folks, as we've mentioned before, if you're thinking of doing something public to celebrate a national event and wondering whether to consult the town council.....with the current regime in Langport you'd be better off asking your cat.
Not so up the road though where they seem to have a bit more national pride:
and there's even more on Sunday:
Nice one Somerton, you go for it.
One Langport business is bothering to mark the weekend though, no not the Blitz display outside the front door but this....
