PANIC OVER

Tesco row with Unilever 'resolved'

Tesco's pricing row with its main supplier Unilever has been resolved this evening, after fears the spat could have caused shortages on the supermarket's shelves - including at Langport.

Unilever's products include Marmite, Dove, PG Tips, Pot Noodle, Persil, Flora and dozens more.

This was the scene on Huish Church Corner this afternoon - before news of the agreement came through - as Long Sutton residents raced down to Langport when they realised they only had two crates of Pimms left in their twin garages.

The junction and bend there were so busy, about 20 Huish Academy students waiting to cross the road to get to the church car park were almost hit by cars...that's 10 more than the usual daily rate.

Even Priest Lane was left empty earlier today, with night workers there 'rushing down' to Tesco when they heard that Unilever also supplies Vaseline.

- and the Vicar had to abandon a coffee morning (below) when a member of the Mother's Union told her that Tonic water was another of Unilever's products.

"It goes so well with the Gordon's" she said...and by lunchtime several Langport Tesco customers were reporting hearing "unexpected cassock in bagging area" coming from the self-service tills.

But at around half past five this afternoon, news came through that the two sides in the pricing dispute had "come to an agreement"

"Bugger" said a spokeswoman for the Langport and District anti-Marmite Association.

There are no further details.
