Following up on yesterday's story and some very angry posts on Facebook - here's what Somerset Councillor Richard Wilkins has to say, after Carry On Langport contacted him, about the sudden cancellation of PitFest this year and his attempts to find a solution.
Richard is one of the two councillors whose wards include Pitney.

"I have been working to try to find a solution to this for several days now (since it came to my attention) it is really disappointing for everyone.
Whilst everyone has been trying to find solutions to the issue we are unable to get away from the fact that the form submitted by the event holder was not sufficient, this meant that the consultation required in law only contained the activities as request by the organisers.
I have been in high level talks with officers at Somerset Council to try to find a work around, but the facts are that the council can not take responsibility for the submission of the event organiser or their decision to cancel aspects of the event once they realised their omissions.
The event could continue to go ahead so long as the activities comply with the event notice they have submitted, which the council approved on time.
I have empathy with what appears to be a genuine error on their part and hope they can find a way to continue the event within the conditions of their current approval."

Looks like he tried but somewhere along the line there appears to have been a stalemate and a decision to cancel.
So was PitFest's hand forced or did the festival simply throw in the towel?
The last line is also somewhat confusing, as if there's still a chance it's on. But yesterday's statement by the organisers left us all in no doubt it's off.
Make of it all what you will folks.
What a strange turn of events indeed.
