Come and say hello...

...but don't mention the clock...

If you can stand the excitement - local councillors are holding one of their regular surgeries (pictured) at Langport Town Hall this morning.

Representatives from the town council and neighbouring Huish Episcopi Parish Council are there to chat to anyone who turns up about any issues, comments, requests or complaints they have.

No appointment's necessary but do remember that Huish councillors are known to be 'more cooperative' if you slip them one of those little Everyday Value £1 tins of Gin & Tonic from Tesco...especially leader Dame Shirley Nicholas.

"Really? Is that what they do?! That's outrageous!" said a Langport councillor, "We're nothing like that...just tuck a few scratchcards inside your planning application"

Doors open at 11 o'clock.

 Local Election Result

Thursday's by election saw the Conservatives keep hold of their seat for the Turn Hill Ward.

It means the South Somerset District Councillor representing the area - which stretches between Aller and Long Sutton - is now Aller man Gerrard Tucker who got 452 votes. Langport woman Julia Gadd for the Lib-Dems came second with 354 votes while 74 people put a cross next to Coombe man Sean Dromgoole's name who stood for Labour.

The result means the district council, based at Yeovil, remains 'hung' with no party having complete control. A win by Mrs Gadd would've tipped the balance of power in the Lib-Dems' favour.

The turn out at polling stations in Aller and Long Sutton was just 37%.
