Carry On Langport!: Remember Chapelgate?

Now it's Somerton's turn...

Langport's recent affliction of town councillors 'not quite getting it' appears to be contagious...it seems to have spread up the road to Somerton.

Our sources (HP, Cranberry, Worcestershire) suggest the town council is allegedly attempting to put up [or introduce?] ground rent at the sports club....on the very land which according to many locals belongs to the public not the town council. We understand the plot was donated to the people of Somerton years ago.

There are even [unsupported] claims the sports club's rent may reach such levels that the club itself would be forced to relocate....leaving the town council free to sell up to housing developers who already have a grip on the land next door. Funny that.

This is all hear-say of course and the story will probably take several twists and turns before it concludes but yes yes that sounds very familiar Somerton.

You've definitely got a severe case of 'town council flu' which we had down here in Langport over the summer.

I prescribe a good dose of 'Parish Meeting' followed by a few resignations and a by-election.
