Panic at Tesco

 Seven members of staff  'battenberged'

Members of the backroom money-handling staff were seen running screaming from their office at the Langport Tesco store yesterday covered in marzipan.

It's believed a battenberg cake was accidentally sent up the pneumatic cash-posting system to the upstairs finance office instead of cash.

It's a system which supermarkets all over the world use but has a history of 'mishaps'.

In 2003 there was a similar incident at the Langport store when a gerbil was accidentally sent up the pipes.

"That's nothing" said local customer Nick Holland, who asked not to be named, "I was sucked up the tube next to checkout number 5 last summer....didn't get a penny of compensation...all they gave me was a tub of vaseline and 200 Nectar points."

If you are one of the workers battenberged on Friday, get in touch.

DATE FOR YOUR DIARY:

'TOWN FORUM' NEXT MONTH

Langport Town Council is applying for a £200,000 European grant to build a boardwalk along this riverbank pathway stretching from Cocklemoor to Black Bridge. The money would also be used to build bird hides, improve slipways into the water for kayaks/canoes etc and for new signage.

If you have a view on this, get down to Great Bow Wharf on Tuesday 11th September for an open public meeting where you can hear more about it from town councillors and other interested parties - and express your views.

Not sure on a time yet, probably evening, watch this space.
