Tipper truck vs bus collision latest:

 Bow Street 'wedgie' inquiry continues.

The public inquiry in to the collision between the number 54 bus and the council's recycling lorry is continuing at the county court in Taunton.

Langport was brought to standstill when the vehicles became wedged against each other on a busy weekday morning in July.

Eyewitnesses have told the court how customers leaving Scrivens found themselves being "violently recycled" when the tipper truck mounted the pavement outside the award-winning butchers.

The court also heard from a member of staff at Boilertec and Langport Hardware who helped free the vehicles with a can of WD40.

"I oiled up at least 6 hip replacements on the bus too" she said, "but couldn't help with the piles."

Magistrates are now trying to ascertain exactly what caused the incident.

Apparently some former town councillors are blaming Val Saunders, local green activists are blaming Persimmon Homes and the BBC is blaming Brexit.

The case continues.

'TOWN FORUM' NEXT MONTH

Langport Town Council is applying for a £200,000 European grant to build a boardwalk along this riverbank pathway stretching from Cocklemoor to Black Bridge. The money would also be used to build bird hides, improve slipways into the water for kayaks/canoes etc and for new signage.

If you have a view on this, get down to Great Bow Wharf at 6pm on Tuesday 11th September for an open public meeting where you can hear more about it from town councillors and other interested parties.
