Remember Summer 2017?

One consequence of 'Chapelgate' all that time ago was that a process was put in place which would see the legal separation on paper of Langport Town Council and Langport Town Trust, the latter which was fully manned by town councillors and among other things owned and ran The Hanging Chapel on behalf of the people.

That process is now complete and trustees are needed to sit on what is now known as Landmark Langport, a Charitable Incorporated Organisation or CIO which oversees the old trust's properties.

Interested in taking part? Here's what you need to know...

For those of us who remember 'that naughty June vote in 2017', you may recall that the townsfolk came together and publicly challenged the town council over a then alleged proposal to sell the chapel off.

Resignations and an apparent u-turn followed.

But this new body,  'Landmark Langport', is regulated by the charity commission.

So if ever a similar public row broke out again about any of the former trust's properties [Chapel, Youth Club, Town Hall] then we wouldn't be able to do what we all did in 2017.....[march down to a public meeting at The Wharf and demand answers]...no no...we'd all have to write letters and e-mails to an address on Merseyside.

Oh the irony - perhaps the old system was more democratic after all!
