OTTER CHAOS

Another Western Gazette 'exclusive'

'Call to reduce speed as otter found dead' is one of the headlines in this week's edition of the Western Gazette. It follows the story of a man who came across the carcass of one of the animals on the Muchelney Drayton road this week. The otter appeared to have been hit by a car.
(Although there are unconfirmed reports it may also have suffered a fatal attack of vertigo as it tackled the north face of the Environment Agency's new Muchelney-Drayton monorail service between the two villages)
Either way, Carry On Langport is saddened to hear of the demise of the rare animal.

What baffles us somewhat is the fact that the death of an otter sparks calls for drivers to slow down when badger and rabbit deaths apparently don't. Their body parts can often be seen decorating our country lanes. Could it be that, in Western Gazette land, a dead otter is a stronger sign of speeding than any other dead animal?

Brace yourself for next week's edition when the discovery of a dead slow worm outside The Grange leads to the arrest of 3 lawnmower users in Curry Rivel.
